WORKS GREAT. WAS A GOOD PURCHASE.

Beautiful craftsmanship. This is a solid, well-balanced piece with a carefully honed blade.
Darryl Bear T.
It’s a beautiful knife and tucked in my bugout bag for emergencies or when camping. Price was very reasonable and excellent quality.
steven H.
Just as advertised. A great sharpening tool and fits in my knife block. Much more efficient and effective than my steel.

I have one a cheaper company put my children broke the top so decided I’ll spend a little more for a better one and find it working great.
Mark E.
This ceramic rod is more aggressive than I expected. Not for extreme sharpening in my experience but very good for roughing in and getting ready for an arkansas stone or honing steel. Works at different rates on different knife steels; I'm still getting used to it. I'm glad I bought it.
S J D.
Perfect for honing my Shun knives!
Robert Gordon M.
This company is very professional with their service and carries only quality products.
They also make every effort to make sure you are happy with the purchase.
I highly recommend purchasing their products.

Excellent for honing the edge on my knives.
Eduardo C.
The 1200 grit ceramic honing rod is as advertised. Its does a great job of putting an edge back to the knife. The knife glides smooth without being to aggressive. It does however, take a little off the knife , but again, not as aggressive as a metal honing rod. If you work in a fast paced kitchen, the chefs knife is put to work 90% of the time, you will need to hone your knife once in a while, and the Messermeister 1200 grit honing rod is the perfect tool for the job.
Tj S.
Perfect but too fragile mine snapped in half when it dropped on the ground
Jim S.
Greatest and easiest knife sharpener. Anyone can use it with success.
john leights
It is an excellent knife sharpener good value for the money

Dommage c etait pour un cadeau apres 2 utilisations il a cassé. Dommage

I wish I had bought a honing rod sooner. Be advised this one does in fact remove a tiny amount of metal so it's possible to screw up your edge if you aren't careful.
Alvin English
I love this product. I have a large mixed selection of knives from expensive to very cheap and this product works well with all of them.
YuQi Huang
No problem with the product other than the fact that it is much larger than anticipated. So do you measurements and compare it with existing steel to get a better feel on its size.Otherwise it is a great ceramic steel with good build quality.
Laurence G.
You need this for a superthin Japanese knife.
dave wheeler
Threw out my Steel hone rod, this is all I need to keep edge sharp, and straight.
Michel
Bonne prise en main, bonne longueur, bonne qualité.... Et pour moins de $40.00Parfait, Merci

Just as advertised!

a good sharpener for daily touch-up of already reasonably sharp knives; at 1200 grit, not a good choice if you expect a razor edge; only water stone at 4000+ grit will do that
Peter M.
Very high quality ceramic honing rod. I was actually surprised by the high quality of this rod. It was the cheapest ceramic honing rod I could find on amazon.ca so I wasn't expecting much from it as long as the rod was the smooth white ceramic I would have been happy.I was very impressed by the size, sturdiness and overall look and feel of the honing rod. The handle is big enough for my large hands, it's got a comfortable thick rubber handle. It has a thick protector on the top of the handle to protect your hand when using the rod. The ring on the very end of the he handle for hanging the rod is thixk, strong and very sturdy. The rod itself is 12" long and almost ½" thick. It's among the largest rods available which I think make it much easier to use and easy to go faster when stroking the knife.

I was worried that this was too cheap and would damage my Global knives. I'm really glad I gave it a chance, it works beautifully. Cleans up the edge on my not-exactly-cheap knives as anything worth buying should. Not saying you shouldn't buy a more expensive ceramic honing sharpener, just saying that if you don't want to, this is a fine rod. Nothing to complain about, just not fancy looking... not that it's bad looking either. The grip is very comfortable. I haven't dropped it so I can't speak to the durability in that regard, but it's holing up nicely, so far.

It is July 2020 and I definitely received a brand new Messermeister ceramic honing rod today. I have already put the Rod away in my knife case. But I included a picture of the packagine it came in. Not sure about the "fake" complaints but my product was in a sealed box. (Amazon return proces are also pretty easy but I would be ticked off as well)Anyway, I have yet to use the rod but being a professional chef I really liked the feel of the rod. It is sturdy and a great length. Obviously ceramic honing rods can break and should be treated with respect. I bought it specifically for my softer knives life my Shun Blue Steel Utility but I will also see does on something harder like my VG-10 layered Sakai Takayuri Nakiri.

C. Badger
This is just what I needed to hone my Chef's knives. Users unfamiliar with ceramic sharpeners should be aware that: (1) ceramic sharpeners are brittle (so do not drop); and (2) honing will leave a gray deposit on the rod (this is normal).
Dee
I was told this is a much better steal if I was going to buy one then the metal. I read up on it and found the ceramic can also do light sharpening as well as straighten the edge which is what the basic metal ones only do. This costs a bit more but I like the idea that it can sharpen too which I thought the metal ones did but they don't, any improvement in how well the knife cuts is based on the improved edge. So this gives you both elements in one effort. The ceramic can wear down over time where as the metal of course doesn't, but I'm betting it takes a very long time to do that under ordinary household usage too. You do have to be careful with handling/storage because a ceramic steal can be chiped.

Too expensive. But it does the job.

Love this thing. It's made of ceramic, not sure what would happen if I dropped it. My gut says it will shatter.
Kim B.
This knife sharpener works. I couldn’t keep an edge on my knives without it
Lissa M
Perfect. Exactly what we were looking for to keep our new Misen knives at their cutting best between sharpening. We would not go back to a steel after using ceramic.
Gabe
I am a bit of a kitchen knife nut and recently learned that ceramic hones are the way to go. I bought this one which works really, really well, and added a finer 2000/3000 grit from Noble which is a great complement to this. If you have good knives don't use a steel steel!
Jorge Belo
Very good Rod Knife Sharpener.
Dennis Meredith
This ceramic rod does a very good job keeping all my knives sharp. Love it.

Keeps a fine edge and I have actually used this to take the nick out of a blade after i chipped it deboning a chinook salmon.

Still going strong 4 years later. It does chip easily though, I put a chip in it the first month I had it by dropping it on my counter.
Henry Blue Ridge
I had my local butcher teach me proper technique. And do not Drop because it will shatter same as any ceramic
John V Kew
I bought the angle guides to learn how to use it.

Works great - as good or better than suggested in the promos

I am no expert on Ceramic sharpeners, this is my first one actually. Nearly every night after work I run my pocket knife on this for maybe 30-45 seconds, Done! I have not sharpened my knife in over 4 months, of course the toughest job is opening cardboard boxes. Just running the knife over this a few times and the edge feels like it was just sharpened. This is not a sharpener, but it does maintain a sharp edge, over and over.
Bruce Endries
Much better than a steel. This actually sharpens the knife. Wish I had gotten one years ago.
Grahaminator
May get a 2nd higher grit one.

RVB
I like this version better than the steel ones.
MAG
I'm a professional. I've used ceramic honing rods before and this one is as great as my previous one, I like ceramic more than cheap steel rods. Definitely recommend, germans know how to make good tools!
mklp29
great for on the job sharpening, or to touch up knifes, brings sharpness back after 2 or 3 passes
Paul W.
Fairly course, maybe 600 grit equivalent. Works well on any metal tool that has a fairly worn edge. Quality handle, and no defects on the rod itself. The ceramic cleans up nicely after use with a little household scouring powder and water.
erik strandquist
great sharpener. much more effective than steel rod sharpeners I've used in the past. keeps my steak knives, chef's knife, and pairing knife in a high state of sharpness.

Sharpens with just a few passes.

An excellent piece of equipment to bring an edge back to a dull knife. I wouldn't be without this in my kitchen. Don't drop it!

Outstanding sharpener !!!!!!
Amazon Customer "Germanist"
Fragile product so be careful
GreenEggs-N-Ham
So I learned from a really good knife blog that often when your knife isn't slicing, it isn't actually dull - the edge is just curled over. If you put it in a sharpener, you're removing steel and putting wear on the blade that doesn't need to be there. What you need is this baby to align and straighten the blade edge. Since learning that (from the Kitchen Knife Guru, go find his blog), I have used this tool numerous time and it has made using my Japanese knives such a pleasure. The big one cuts meat literally like hot butter now. The paring knife goes through tomatoes like... Ok, hot butter again. Really, really recommend this sharpener.
Lisa Shaw
I've tried nearly every knife-sharpening gadget there is, and this one is the simplest and best. Have your knives professionally sharpened once a year, steel them before every use, and use this rod to restore an edge that will make veggie chopping a delight instead of a chore. It's as easy to use as a steel, so there's really no learning curve. It will keep your knifes factory sharp.
M. Niall
For the home cook, not significantly better than the steel one that came with my cheap knives.
Trevor A.
It really finished the sharp to all my knives.

its best product
Sandra Jones
Got this for my husband. He absolutely loves it!
Sam S.
Much better than a conventional honing steel.
Emily
Great! Just make sure you don't allow any scratches to get on your sharpener or they will show up on your knife.
Mike
Love it and use it often. It's a pity because I rarely get to use my sharpening stones anymore. Unlike old school steels this ceramic rod actually removes a bit of metal from the knife edge. The free handed technique should not be used with this rod. Instead put it tip down on a cutting board or other stable surface and draw the knife down and towards you.
Jcmyhope
works great, sharp knifes now thanks

Don't settle for anything less than quality. This Knife steel is Fantastic!

Great product, but make sure your knife block is large enough because this is T H I C C

Had one before and it lasted couple of years, great tool to have.
Henry
Old honing steel wasn't getting the job done.It had lost its "bite" and wasn't sharpening the blade any more. The ridges had been worn through use.Considered another honing steel but wanted something that would last longer or do a better job.Looked around for few days and settled on the ceramic.I understand it may break upon dropping. However, ceramics tend to last longer against steel knives because they are denser material. And ceramic surface shouldn't smooth out in long term unlike honing steels. It's nice to hold.Looks just like a porcelain stick. It is smooth unlike ridges of honing steel.Sharpening a blade against it will leave gray marks but that indicates it it doing its job.It restored the sharpness of my blades which had problems cutting tomatoes. For cleaning, I use a Brillo pad.It cleans most but not all of the metal residue from the rod.
jb
My biggest and most used kitchen knives never rust, but they don't hold edge very well. This devices sharpens them quickly and easily.
John E
This thing is totally worth the money! Super sharp and much better than typical sharpening steel. I'll definitely buy this again or recommend it to anyone.
Jonathan M Foote
Great size and quality. Keeps my knives very sharp.

Messermeister is a primo band.

solid sharpener for a decent price point.

Good for honing hard Japanese knives.
50HudsonCommodore
I really like this sharpening rod. I think I read somewhere that it is a 1200 grit. That seems likely given how it feels when I am sharpening my knives. It replaces an old steel that I had for 50 years. The handle is comfortable and the rod is long enough for long knives.
rlgodden
I like this a lot better than a steel one.
Serene670
This sharpener is very delicate and breakable and extremely good quality. It sharpens my knifes with ease and grace. Love it!

Works for me, it's sharpening rod. It's not going to restore a damaged blade, but it's good for maintenance. No complaints.
Vincent L.
Great sharpener, works well on all my knives

Great for kitchen knives. Ceramic is best.

Perfect gift for the owner of a carbon steel knife. Keep the plastic guard that comes with it.
Gary L. Blaser
Really a quality product...performs as advertised..
Matthew Pham
Very good to hone the knife's edge.Ceramic sharpens just a little bit to help keep the knife performing well. The whiteness does get stained to grey due to the knife's metal, though it works well still.
Tumi
Great quality. I had wanted to buy a Messermeister ceramic knife sharpener for some time and I am very pleased with it. It is easy now to keep my knifes in great condition in between sharpening.
Gary Calderaz
Tried them on my garden shears as well. Will cut paper!
DM
Works well to hone the edge of a well maintained knife. It gets dirty very quickly though and needs to be cleaned more frequently than a traditional steel rod.
